A funny thing happened going to the theatre
I was in the Montsouris Paris hospital awaiting to go to the operating theatre to have a new heart valve fitted . I was lying on my bed, relaxing when a middle aged nurse arrived and said “I have come to shave you” ! I got up and she laid out a sterile cover on the bed and I undressed. I was laying naked, when she took a small electric razor and held my left hand. She started to shave my...

Still Alive
Just a quick blog to say i am still alive despite the best efforts of the Grands Pres rehab centre. Yesterday they gave me something which made me very ill, nausea, throwing up etc. So much for French cooking. My weight is still falling off, down about 6kgs in just over two weeks. Not a bad thing but i am sorry they had to make me sick to do it. I guess that is all for now. Barrie.

Funny Farm
Greetings from the funny farm where i will stay for a couple of weeks. Much as expected the food is in keeping with my diet, i do not eat much so the weight just falls off. I have lost about 5 kgs in just over a week. My vision is still not improving but it is early days yet. Marie Therese will join me tomorrow to experience the funny farm 1st hand. It will be great to have some company....

On the move
Tomorrow i am leaving the Ins Mut Montsouris hospital for a rehab centre in the out skirts of Paris at 77 Marne le Vallee. It should be more interesting than hospital and with some get fit stuff to do and with abit of luck they will let me swim, they have a pool, not quite the RAC in Pall Mall however with wet water. My sight is still not 100%. I hope given time it might improve, it has only been...

Free lunch in Paris
Hi Guys and Gals They say there is no such thing as a free lunch but here in Paris hospital IMM there is free lunch every day. MINE ! The food here is so sawful that I leave most of it every day, surviving on very little. I guess I lost 5 kgs the 1st week and dream of going down to the Canton is Newport Place at the end of Gerrard St. London W1. It is one of the best only surpassed by the...

Latest from Paris
I spent the weekend in Paris with Paul the chef and we visited Barrie both on Saturday and Sunday. He is doing well and we took him for a walk down the hospital corridor as he is not allowed to go by himself. The doctors are pleased with his heart but he still has a few issues with his eyesight (no peripheral vision) and memory and we do hope it is just going to be temporary.

Barrie is doing well
I visited Barrie today in hospital and found him sitting in bed looking quite bright and rosy cheeks! I was totally amazed on how well he looked after his big operation. He should move out of intensive care tomorrow and back into his nice room with a lovely view. I shall be back to see him (with Paul the chef) at the weekend and I am pleased to say that so far it is all going according to plan. So...

Barrie's new valve
Barrie had his aortic valve replacement operation this morning early and I am pleased to report that the operation went well. When I spoke to intensive care at lunch time, he had just arrived from the theater and was still asleep. They were due to wake him up this afternoon. I shall call at 9pm tonight and tomorrow I am going to Paris to visit Barrie. So more news tomorrow….. Thanks to all...

Paris
Just leaving for Paris after a nice week end in Kent where I hooked up with my family , except poor Natalie who had a bug and was rightly worried about infecting me. What this space for updates.

BBC drops half of F1 !!!
After a lifetime of watching F1 on TV next year it is all over ! No way will Murdoch’s Sky TV get any of my money, not even for F1. I hope the sponsors realise that their spectators will decline, by at least one !

Institut Mutualiste Montsouris
What a great hospital this is. I had three days of tests this week, all of which might take six months in the NHS, waiting weeks and weeks for appointments etc. I had a Coronarography. An impressive procedure by any standards, it is a way of seeing if there are any obstacles in the Coronary arteries. This was done like a real operation with two surgeons and two nurses, I was given a local...
